MANY CASUALTIES
' IN SEVERE EARTHQUAKE IN FORMOSA. NUMEROUS HOUSES WRECKED. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.0 a.m.) NEW YORK, December 17. A severe earthquake occurred on the island of Formosa on Tuesday, and according to the Tokio radio, caused 819 casualties, destroyed 693 houses in the city of Tainan and damaged several villages. The Dbmei news agency gave the casualties at 190 killed and 164 injured, with 1,200 houses razed.
