The Japanese attack on Hawaii has caused a continuous rush of enlistments throughout the United States. The Navy alone enlisted 11,303 men in the first eight days. BAREFACED LIE JAPANESE REPORT OF BOMBING OF RANGOON. (Received This Day, 12.35 p.m.) BOMBAY, December 17. The Japanese report of the bombing of Rangoon is officially described as a bare-faced lie. It is also denied that the Japanese have landed at the Andaman ' Islands. .NO ENEMY ACTION IN PHILIPPINE ISLANDS. BRIEF SHELLING IN HAWAIIAN GROUP. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.5 a.m.) RUGBY, December 17. There is little fresh news in today’s American war communique. . There has been discernible enemy activity in the past 24 hours in the Philippine theatre. Reports from Hawaii mention a brief shelling of Kahoolawe and Maui islands by enemy submarines. Slight damage was done. There is nothing to report from other areas.
