SPANISH SHIP
SUNK BY U=BOAT IN MEDITERRANEAN TYPICAL NAZI CONDUCT. STATEMENT BY BRITISH ADMIRALTY. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 9.25 a.m.) RUGBY, December 17. An Admiralty communique states: “Details of fhe sinking of the Spanish ship Badalona, reported in yesterday’s Admiralty communique, are now available. This ship was sunk by a German U-boat off the coast of Spain. The captain of the U-boat refused to accept the assurance, given by the captain of the Badalona, that the ■ ship was Spanish. The U-boat fired three torpedoes, which sank the ship and killed some of the crew. The methods adopted by the commander of this U-boat bear a marked resemblance to those of the commander of the German U-boat which attacked the St. Denis a few days ago. It is stated in London that the Germans announced on November 27 that U-boats were being transferred to the Mediterranean, to operate against British naval units. There is no doubt that U-boats have been heavily harassed in their effort to reach the Mediterranean. The hospitality of French and Spanish territorial waters has been abused in the typical Nazi fashion, by flagrant attacks on snips belonging to their hosts.
