AIR WARFARE

ENEMY SHIP STRUCK BY TORPEDO

BRITISH BOMBERS RAID BREST & OSTEND. MINOR ATTACKS ON BRITAIN. LONDON, December 16. An enemy anti-aircraft ship was hit by a torpedo and probably sunk during an attack on shipping off the Dutch coast this afternoon by British planes. All the British aircraft engaged came back safely. British bombers last night raided the docks at Ostend and Brest and laid mines in enemy waters. Fighter planes attacked an aerodrome in occupied territory. One fighter and one bomber are missing. Enemy air attacks on south-west England caused slight damage and few casualties.

A later message reports a sharp attack on a town in south-east England early tonight. No serious damage or casualties are reported. Two raiders are believed to have taken part. Civilian casualties from air raids on the United Kingdom during November were 88 killed and 155 injured.
