VOLUNTARY AIDS

ENTERTAINED IN MASTERTON.

SEVERAL PRESENTATIONS MADE.

The V.A.D’s. of the Order of St. John entertained the overseas V.A.D’s. in the Country Women’s Club on Saturday afternoon. There was a large attendance of representatives of local institutions.

Mrs H. Pither, president of the St. John Nursing Division, was in the chair. The speakers were Mrs A. F. Stewart, Mi- T. Jordan and Mrs N. Lee, who wished the V.A.D’s. “God speed” and a safe return. : Miss Whitehouse, Superintendent of the Nursing Division of the St. John Ambulance, made presentations of zipped writing cases to members of the Voluntary Aid Detachment of St. John.

Similar gifts were handed by Mr Lee to Red Cross Voluntary Aids. The following received gifts: — Misses N. Morrison, L. Beetham, M. Innes, and I. Barton (St. John V.A.D.), Misses M. McAnulty (Eketahuna), and N. Smart (Carterton), Red Cross V.A.D.; Mrs N. Fell (member of the canteen unit). Misses Morrison and McAnulty responded on behalf of the V.A.D’s. Musical honours were accorded the girls and afternoon tea served by members of the St. John Voluntary Aids. Miss R. Elliott thanked the members of the St. John Nursing Division for -having arranged the gathering, and the Country Club members for the use of the room.
