BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY
INSPECTION OF DOUGLAS PARK AREA. ■
CONTRIBUTION TO HOME GUARD
FUNDS.
Subsequent to a recent meeting the committee of the Masterton Beautifying Society paid a visit to Douglas Park, the area which extends from Upper Cole Street to Essex Street extension. A plan for laying out this section was inspected and it is hoped to proceed with the work of planting, etc., next season. A striking as well as useful park area should result. The proceeds of this year’s crop of primus plums are being donated to units of the Masterton Home Guard for the purchase of uniforms. On Saturday afternoon a systematic picking was made by two platoons and it is hoped that a useful contribution to this fund will be earned by the sale of the plums in the Wellington market. The men who have regularly trained for the past year and who now make this effort to provide themselves with uniforms deserve high praise for their unselfishness and patriotism, states the society.
