Heat in Masterton.

In Masterton yesterday the heat, 84.7 degrees, was the highest registered this summer.

Weekend Accidents. Accident admissions to Masterton Hospital during the weekend were: — Richard Murphy, Pir'noa, aged 6 years, who fell off a cycle and injured his arm. His condition is satisfactory. A baby, aged 18 months, Roger Lavery, of Cornwall Street, Masterton, fell out of a pram and injured his tongue. He was discharged from hospital this morning. Appeal to Women and Girls.

An appeal to the women and girls of the Dominion to register with the Women’s War Service Auxiliary, if they have not already done so, and thereby help the country’s war effort, was made last night by Mrs Janet Fraser, wife of the Prime Minister. An important factor which affects individually each woman who registers with the auxiliary to undertake war or emergency work to which Mrs Fraser referred was that of insurance for- injury sustained while undertaking such service. The auxiliary had, at the request of the Army Department, undertaken to organise all women’s organisations which were willing to co-operate in the manufacture of camouflage nets. Most women’s organisations had been contacted to ascertain the number of women available to assist in this direction, and it was more than gratifying to know that a magnificent response had been received from the womenfolk throughout the Dominion.
