TERRITORIAL UNITS

HOME DEFENCE TRAINING TO COMMENCE ON MONDAY. HOME GUARD DUTIES. (By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, This Day. Territorials who were to go to camp on January 10 for two months’ collective training are to be called up, mobilisation to begin on Monday, December 15. This decision of the War Cabinet, which has been made in view of the present war situation, was announced last night by the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser. The National Military Reserve, said Mr Fraser, was being called up as from yesterday to man certain vital points. The members of the Home Guard would have responsible duties assigned to them, and members of the E.P.S. would be expected to take up their posts if the need should arise. “The manufacture of munitions and necessary war supplies will have to be maintained right through the holiday period,” said Mr Fraser, “and suitable arrangements will have to be made. This is a time when all must be prepared to serve and sacrifice. There will be many inconveniences caused to a large number of people, and. very few will be free from some dislocation of their arrangements, but with a full realisation that the life of everyone in the community may be at stake the fullest co-operation is anticipated.”
