VICTORY TOAST
CHRISTMAS DAY OBSERVANCE. R.S.A. PROPOSAL. A Victory toast on Christinas_ Day is suggested by a writer in "Review, ’ the official magazine of the New Zealand R.S.A., in an article appearing in the Christmas number. It was originally intended that the toast should be observed by the families of members of the association but so great is the interest already taken in tho proposal that the whole of the New Zealand public is invited to join m. The article suggests that as 1 o'clock struck on radios on Christmas Day listeners should stand up and observe one minute in silent contemplation and in turn, give a fleeting thought to (a) All the men and women in the Navy, Army, and Air Force personally known; (b) The oppressed people m all the occupied countries; (c) the King and Queen and the Empire’s loaders. At the end of the minute those observing the toast should raise tneir glasses —even if they only contained water—and drink a toast. It would probably be the shortest toast over uttered—“V.” And while making , the toast they should follow Mr Churchill s example and form the victory “V” with the first and second fingers of the left hand.
