REGENT THEATRE

“THE BAD MAN.” Wallace Beery, the veteran film actor, comes back to the screen in a role suited to his talents in the boisterous western comedy-drama, “The Bad Man.” which will head the programme at the Regent Theatre tonight. Teamed with Beery is a cast of capable supporting players, including Lionel Barrymore, making his first picture with the former since “Ah, Wilderness!” The story deals with a group of “tenderfeet” on a cattle ranch, their lives complicated by a love affair and by a fight between a banker and oil swindler, seeking to take the property for oil development. Into this tangle rides Pancho Lopez, notorious bad man of the west, and he proceeds to straighten out matters by applying his bandit’s ethics, to the consternation of all concerned. Wallace Beery is splendid as the swashbuckling Robin Hood of the range, while Barrymore lends a touch of comedy as a testy old rancher. Romance is provided by the inclusion of pretty Laraine Day and handsome Ronald Reagan, while Chill Wills, cowboy comedian of “Boom Town,” again distinguishes himself.
