OPAKI

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE / MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Opaki Women’s Institute was held at the home of Mrs Beetham, who presided over a good attendance of members. A communication thanking the Institute for a parcel was received from a soldier in Egypt. Mrs Keir, a member of the Wairarapa Federation Executive was welcomed by the president, who invited her to address the members. Mrs Keir spoke on various matters of interest to the movement, and made helpful suggestions. Her remarks were much appreciated. A “bring and buy” stall did good business. The competitions were judged by Mrs Keir and resulted as follows: Sewing, Mrs Dagg 1, Mrs Rayner 2, Mrs Wyeth 3. Cooking: Mrs Rayner 1, Miss lorns 2, Mrs Wingate 3. Best bloom: Mrs Rayner 1, Mrs Miller 2, Mrs Malmo 3. The roll call, an Irish or a Scottish joke, caused much amusement. The programme for the next meeting will be: Competitions; sewing, article for group shop day in March; cooking, shortbread in two-inch squares; best bloom.
