CARTERTON
ORDER OF ODD FELLOWS LOYAL HEART OF OAK LODGE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The fortnightly meeting of Loyal Heart of Oak Lodge was held last , night, being presided over by P.G. Sister Eagle. Votes of condolence were passed to Bro. George Riggs and P.G. Bro. M. B. Tait, who had suffered bereavements. Sister Freda Eagle was thanked for her duties while passing through the /'chains of the Lodge. It was resolved that her* name be placed upon the Honours Board and that she be presented with a Lodge Diploma. The newly-elected officers w.ere installed into office by P.D.G.M. Bro. C. J. DeLacey. Other officers were appointed as follow:—Warden, Sister F. Eagle; R.S.N.G., Bro. W. McPherson; R.S.V.G., Bro. W. L. Knutson. It was resolved to invite P.G. Bro. C. J. Fisher; of Richmond, to represent 'the Heart of Oak Lodge at the centenary celebrations of the Order in Nelson next Easter. Supper was later partaken of.
DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL MONTHLY MEETING. Mr H. J. McKenzie presided over the monthly meeting of the Carterton School Committee last evening. There were also present: Messrs A. G. Rabbits, R. Williams, F. Denbee, P. Beere, C. K. Goodin and the secretary, Mr W. E. Knowles and the headmaster (Mr W. Martin). The treasurer reported a credit balance at the Bank of £36 9s 7d. Regarding complaints from parents at Ahiaruhe, Mr Sewell, who was present, claimed justification for his action regarding the treatment of the boys mentioned in the complaint to the committee. Eventually the committee resolved that if any further misbehaviour occurred drastic action would be taken, and that the parents concerned be written to regarding the matter. It was also resolved that a records book be carried by the bus driver and that this be handed to the headmaster daily. The headmaster reported that the primary school attendance was 378 while there were 47 secondary scholars. Mr Martin reported that the takings at the school ball amounted to £47. On the motion of Mr Denbee hearty congratulations were extended the headmaster and teachers on the man--4 ner in which the school ball was man- \ .aged. k The breaking up ceremony at, me school will be held on Thursday, December 18.
bowling CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS. Further championship games were played by the Carterton Bowling Club last evening, and resulted as follows:— R. Thompson and Harrington (s) defeated Martin and Callender (s), 25/15; Pankhurst and Harp (s) defeated Newbould and Hughan (s), 29/15; Daysh and McCarty (s) beat Clark and Steven (s), 16/14; Kiimister and Barr (s) beat Simmonds and Barber (s), 19/18. Colts singles: Compton beat Colson, 22/15. Progressive pairs: Beaven and Sorensen (s) beat Foster and Callender (s), 24/19.
WAIRARAPA GUN CLUB COMPETITION RESULTS. Perfect weather conditions prevailed at the weekend for the competitions held by the Wairarapa Gun Club on the Norfolk Road grounds. Mr Geo. A. Vincent was in splendid form, winning three events and being second in two others. The secretary (Mr C. M. Kiddie) and the president had the arrangements for the meeting complete in every detail. Personal Items, r w Mr George Sewell, a member of the ' TAir Force, is on leave from the Hobsionville air base, Auckland. He is staying with his parents and will return to Auckland this week. Mrs F. Salisbury, of Broadway, yesterday received a cable message stating that her son, Pte. R. P. Salisbury, had been seriously wounded in the Libyan battle. Mr J. G. Oates has found it necessary to enter a hospital again for medical treatment. Lamb and Calf Competition. 4 The annual competition of the Wairarapa Lamb and Calf Club will be held next Thursday at Carterton Showgrounds. Freezing Works Busy. The Waingawa Freezing Works are working at high pressure, two chain gangs operating. Salvation Army.
