OTHER PEOPLE’S IDEAS
HOME GUARD & PETROL (To the Editor.) Sir—Can you inform me why the Gladstone Home Guard has gone into recess from last Tuesday? One reason given is that the petrol allowance for this purpose has been stopped. If this is so, I suppose it is on account of a greater war effort, such as race meetings, tennis tournaments, etc., etc. Only yesterday I heard of two families who are about to set off to Rotorua and Auckland in their cars. Truly we want a bomb to drop amongst us before some realise where we are heading in this country.—l am, etc., “ALARMED.”
It appears, from inquiries made locally, that petrol allowances for Home Guard parades have been stopped meantime, but it is hoped that an adjustment of the position will be made in the near future.
