PETROL SALES
IMMEDIATE RESTRICTIONS IMPOSED PUBLIC RUSH CHECKED. STATEMENT BY MINISTER OF SUPPLY. Petrol restrictions in New Zealand have followed quickly on the news that this country is at war with Japan. According to a radio announcement no petrol is to be sold in containeis after 2 p.m. this afternoon. In addition, only coupon Number 11 is meantime negotiable. The Minister of Supply (Mr Sullivan) stated today that a section of the motoring public had made a rush to secure petrol against the whole of tne December-January coupons. It had therefore been decided that coupons 12 and 13 should not be redeemable in the meantime. Sellers of petrol had been instructed not to receive coupons 12 and 13 after 2 p.m. today and also that petrol should be supplied only in the container of the car or other vehicle concerned.
