Middle East communique states: “In co-operation with Imperial land forces, bomber aircraft of the R.A.F., South African Air Force and the Free French Air Force made a series of successful attacks on enemy mechanised units and other objectives in the Ed Adem area. Direct hits were obtained on one group of tanks and other bombs fell among a number of tank carriers on to which tanks were being loaded. Considerable damage was caused. A large building at El Adme, which was being used by the enemy as an anti-aircraft battery, was s completely demolished. “Our fighters were active yesterday and enemy motor transport on the Derna-Tobruk road .was successfully attacked. In a raid on the Jedabya Aerodrome three CR42s and one 579 were destroyed and other enemy aircraft were damaged. Dive-bombers and lorries on the landing ground at Tmimi were also damaged. Further groups of enemy motor transport on the Maraua-Faidia road were effectively machine-gunned. “Off the North African coast on December 5, our bombers obtained a number of direct hits on an enemy ship. A violent explosion occurred on the ship and a fire broke out. When our aircraft left, the vessel was burning fiercely and was almost stationary. , “Further details are now available of bombing raids carried out along the Capuzzo Road on December 5. Many lorries were immobilised and heavy casualties were inflicted on enemy troops. Staff cars containing passengers were destroyed and ammunition and petrol lorries were set on fire. “During the night of December 5 Naples was again raided and bombs fell on the Royal Arsenal, a torpedo factory, an air frame factory and marshalling yards. Explosions and fires were caused. “From these and other operations, twelve of our planes are missing, but three of our pilots are Safe.”
