LAMBS AND CALVES
CARTERTON GROUP COMPETITIONS ON SATURDAY. LIST OF WINNERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The calf and lamb competitions of the Carterton group were held on the Showgrounds on Saturday afternoon. The judges were Messrs W. Howard Booth (lambs) and Howard Feast (calves). The judges were very pleased with the type of animal shown. The champion calf judged on care and handling and dairy type was won by Delma Jensen, Waihakeke, who was awarded the Borthwick Cup and a trophy. The Parkvale school won the first, second and third prizes for the best book on calf rearing. The placings were: Maureen Thomas 1, Ronald Rose 2, Syd. Bayliss 3. The awards were as under:— Black Face Lamb. —Allan Jensen, Waihakeke, 1; lan Rayner, Parkvale, 2; Noel Jensen, Waihakeke, 3. Long Wool Lamb.—June Rayner, Clareville, 1; Elizabeth Rayner, Clareville, 2; Rex Blake, West Taratahi, 3. Calves.—Care and handling, St. 2 and under: Shirley Allan, West Taratahi, 1; Brian Renall, Carterton, 2; George Ticehurst, Dalefield, 3. Care and handling, St. 3 and over: Noreen Conwell, Dalefield, 1; Joan Ticehurst, Dalefield, 2; Melba Warrington, Waihakeke, 3. Dairy Type Jersey: Delma Jensen, Waihakeke, 1; Brian Renall, Carterton, 2; Joan Ticelhurst, Dalefield, 3. . Dairy Type Ayrshire: Ronnie Rose, Parkvale, 1; Noreen Thomas, Parkvale, 2; Peggy Daysh, West Taratahi, 3. Dairy Type Shorthorn and Friesian: Lola Parker, Dalefield, 1; Noreen Conwell, Dalefield, 2; Raeburn Abbott, Clareville, 3. ’ Mr W. H. Booth has made a donation of £1 towards the club’s funds.
