DEATH OF A MAORI
ALLEGED MANSLAUGHTER SEQUEL TO A FIGHT. ACCUSED MEN REMANDED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, December 1. Henry Matthews and Phillip Matthews, Maoris, were jointly charged in the Magistrates’ Court with having unlawfully killed Dave Repia, thereby committing manslaughter. Henry Matthews was also charged with assaulting Repia so as to cause actual bodily harm. A third Maori, Harry Matthews, was charged with fighting in Nelson Street.
When the preliminary charges were presented on Monday of last week against Phillip and Harry Matthews, the police said it was alleged that those two accused had been mixed up in a fight on November 22 and that shortly afterward Repia was found lying on the footpath and subsequently died.
Henry Matthews made his first appearance in the Court today. On the application of the police all three were remanded to December 8, bail being allowed.
