The Auckland Racing Club’s midspring meeting concluded today in fine weather before a fair attendance. The track was in good order. Investments totalled £47,393, compared with £72,270 10s last year, when the King’s Birthday holiday was held. The spring meeting of the Feilding Jockey Club concluded yesterday in fine, overcast weather, the going being improved from Saturday, but still on the slow side. In the contrast to the first day, the favourites did not fare so well, and there were some surprises, the win of Starlet in the second division of the juvenile event being accompanied by a dividend of over half a century. The principal race, the St. Andrew’s Handicap, was won by Red Cat at nearly double figures, and the sprint went to Rakahanga. The other open event, the seven-furlong Empire Handicap, was won by Sir Beau. The totalisator handled £16,616, compared with £15,950 on the corresponding day last year, an increase of £666.
