V NATIONAL SAVINGS QUOTA REACHED. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Carterton national savings quota of £250 for this week was reached yesterday afternoon. DRUIDS’ LODGE INSTALLATION OF OFFICERS The installation meeting of Totara Lodge No. 3 United Ancient Order of Druids, was held last night, Arch. Druid Bro. A. F. Stretton presiding. The newly-elected officers were installed into office by the District President, Bro. A. J. Dew, after which they returned thanks for their election. The District President, on behalf of the Lodge, presented Past Arch. Bro. C. W. Smith with a Past Arch, collar and diploma in recognition of the services rendered by him to the lodge while passing through the chairs. Bro. Smith accepted the gift with thanks. \ Members of Totara Lodge will visit Fernleaf Lodge, Greytown, on Wednesday, and the Stonehenge Lodge, Masterton, on Monday, to attend the installation of officers.
Sick pay (£l2 10s) and Social Security sick pay (£4 ss) were passed for payment. At the conclusion of business the Arch. Druid invited members to partake of supper.
Social Problems. A meeting of members of various organisations and all interested women will be held in the Presbyterian Hall. Carterton, tomorrow evening at 8 o’clock for the purpose of discussing social problems. Mrs H. E. Ordish will preside and among the visitors will be Mrs T. Barrer and Mrs K. Groves, Masterton. Vital Statistics. The vital statistics for Carterton for November were: Births 8; deaths 1; marriages 4. For the corresponding month last year there were 10 births, 2 deaths and 5 marriages. Personal Items. Word has been received in Carterton by Mrs Teal that her husband, Private Norman F. Teal, who is in the Middle East, has had to be operated upon. At the time of writing he was still in hospital. ' The new traffic inspector for South Wairarapa, Mr A. E. Ansell, commenced his duties yesterday. Acting under medical advice, Mrs D. T. King, of Broadway, has found it necessary to enter the Croydon Hospital for treatment. Mrs W. J. C. Wells has returned to Carterton after a trip to Mount Egjnont. School Committee. Although there was a quorum present the monthly meeting of the Carterton School Committee lapsed owing to the secretary not being able to attend. It was decided to hold the meeting next Monday evening at 8 o’clock. V Formation of Swans, i A resident informed the “TimesAge” correspondent that on Sunday night at about 7 o’clock he noticed in the sky a large flock of swans, probably some 60 or 70. In front was a single bird who evidently was acting as pilot. The swans were strung out in the sky in a perfect V formation, and they kept this order as far as they could be seen with the naked eye. Cleaning the Side Streets. - A start has been made by the contractor with the cutting of grass in the side streets in the borough. Euchre Party & Dance. A euchre party and dance will be held in the Kalwaiwai Hall on Tuesday, December 23. REGENT THEATRE “THE SECRET OF DR. KILDARE.” “The Secret of Dr. Kildare)’ will be Shown tonight at the Regent Theatre, Carterton, starring Lew Ayres, Lionel Barrymore and Larraine Day. This excellent drama is probably the best of the Kildare series and should not be missed. Other interesting features include the New Zealand troops returned from Crete.
