HAMBURG BLASTED
DOCKS AND SHIPPING SET ABLAZE HEAVY ATTACK BY BRITISH BOMBERS. OTHER VITAL PORTS RAIDED. LONDON, December 1. The British air offensive against Germany ' was ' ‘kept going at high pressure last night, when a strong force of the Bomber Command raided vital enemy ports in NorthWestern Germany. The main attack was on Hamburg, which has already been battered 83 times. Some 150 tons of bombs were dropped and large fires were left blazing in the docks and shipyards.
Emden was also attacked by a powerful force and other attacks were made on Bremerhaven, Wilhelmshaven, Kiel and Lubeck. Mines were also laid in enemy waters.
Nineteen planes of the Bomber Command failed to get back. The Polish crew of one of the missing bombers were picked up and got safely back to this country..
The Coastal Command lost only one plane in a hunt after enemy shipping. A tanker and a number of other vessels were hit off the Dutch coast. Five hits were scored by Canadian airmen of the Coastal Command.
