NOTABLE VICTORY
GAINED BV BRITISH „ PLANES TEN ENEMY MACHINES SHOT DOWN. AT COST OF TWO FIGHTERS. (Received This Day, 9.45 a.m.) LONDON, December 1. The Associated Press of Great Britain’s correspondent with the British forces in Cyrenaica reports that a British fighter squadron on Sunday encountered thirty German bombers and fighters over Bir El Gobi. The meeting was unexpected and resulted in a terrific fight, leading to one of the most notable British air victories in the desert. Nine Nazi fighters and one Stuka were shot down and fourteen others, mainly bombers, are believed to have been damaged. Two British fighters were lost.
