BANK MANAGER FINED
SEQUEL TO QUARREL. INCIDENT AT LAWRENCE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, November 28. A sequel to a quarrel between a bank manager and a butcher at Lawrence on the evening of November 22 was heard in the Magistrates Court, Law rence, today, when Edward Alexander Winchester, bank manager, aged 51 years, appeared to answer charges of presenting a loaded firearm at James Mervyn Barr, butcher, of assault and of carrying a pistol without a licence. Accused pleaded guilty to the charge of carrying a firearm without a licence but not guilty to the other charges. After hearing the evidence, the magistrate, Mr H. J. Dixon, said he felt accused was carrying the revolver for a sinister purpose. He had power to sentence him to three month s imprisonment or impose a fine up to £lOO. He felt it was right that he should treat it as a serious offence and accused would be fined £25 with costs (10s). He made an order for the confiscation of the revolver and ammunition.
The charge of presenting a firearm was dismissed and the assault charge was adjourned till January 26.
