Gas Works Closed.

The Greytown. Municipal’ gas works ceased to operate at midnight on Sunday. Since the advent of electricity the gasworks have become a heavy liability and for a number of years the council have had to transfer large amounts from the general rates to the ■gas account. The closing of the works has caused the residents of the town considerable expense in replacing gas appliances with electrical ones, but the majority have realised that the council had no other alternative. The high cost of appliances at the present time is a heavy drain on the community.

Calf and Lamb Competitions. The annual competitions for calf and lamb rearing will take place at the Greytown District High School.
