INFLICTED ON GERMANS IN SOUTH RUSSIA Soviet Forces Retake Rostov TIMOSHENKO’S TROOPS PURSUING BEATEN ENEMY MORE NAZI GAINS ON MOSCOW FRONT RUSSIAN WITHDRAWAL FROM TIKHVIN LONDON, November 30. Following on their recapture of Rostov, the Russians are pursuing the German panzer forces. The latter are now falling back by way of Taganrog on Mariupol, 100 miles due west of Rostov. The ‘‘lzvestia’’ states of the fighting west of Rostov: “We are smiting the enemy. Twenty villages have been freed.’’ A German military spokesman admits heavy Russian attacks in the Donetz basin. The bitter struggle for Moscow continues. The Germans are said to be within 36 miles of the capital a.t several points in the Mojaisk sector, but the onslaught shows signs of slowing down. On the northern front Soviet counter-attacks are admitted by the official German news agency. At one point on. the Moscow front the Russians have recaptured 14 villages. e The Soviet admits a withdrawal from Tikhvin, a railway junction 110 miles south-east of Leningrad, where violent fighting has been in progress for some time.
