CARTERTON

WEDDING FLANAGAN—SPOONER. (“Times-Age” Special.) On Saturday, November 15, at 6 p.m., a very pretty lilac and white wedding was celebrated at St. Andrew’s y Church (Carterton), which had been tastefully decorated in shades of lilac by relatives of the bride. The Rev. W. J. Couling officiated, the contracting parties were Betty Helen, only daughter of Mr and Mrs Spooner, Carterton, and Hedley Campbell, only son of Mr and the late Mrs Flanagan, Hastings. Miss Verna Irwin presided at the organ. The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a very dainty gown of white taffeta, with short puffed sleeves and heart-shaped neckline. A row of tiny buttons ran from neck to toe, from each side of which two rows of frilling extended almost to the hem, and around the fall flaring skirt and train. The beautifully embroidered veil, lent by the bride’s aunt, Mrs G. McKenzie, of Greytown, was caught in place by a silver halo. Her bouquet was of maidenhair fern, white pansies and lily of the valley, relieved with orchids in soft shades, of lilac. Little Owen Spooner, of Otaki (nephew of the bride), in white satin and lace, carried out the duties of page boy. Mrs Foster, of New Plymouth (an aunt of the bride), was matron of honour, her frock being of deep lilac with full skirt and draped neckline, and the three bridesmaids, Misses Peggy and Letty Simmonds, of Carterton, and Miss Mary Carrick, of Wellington. (chief), wore crepe de chine frocks of a paler lilac, also with draped necklines and full skirts. Short lace sleeves of toning lilac and large diamond lace insets at centre front, lent contrast. An original and charming feature were the matching crepe de chine muffs, offset with orchids in varying shades of lilac, and carried by the bridesmaids and matron of honour alike. Toning flowers adorned their hair. The amethyst pendants worn, by the bridesmaids were the gift of. the bridegroom; to the matron of honour he' gave a silver cigarette case, and to the bride a cheque. Mr Bryan Spooner, twin brother of jtlj.e bride, was best man, and the groomsmen were Messrs Norm. Edmunds and Russel Cowley (Wellington), and Basil Blatchford (Carterton). A reception was later held at the home of the bride’s parents, the bride’s mother receiving 'her'guests in a frock of black and white worsted, with black felt picture hat, and matching accessories. Her spray was of deep red roses, pansies and maidenhair fern. The bride and bridegroom received many attractive and useful gifts. Mr and'Mrs Flanagan left by car for the south, the latter travelling in an old-gold frock with russet accessories and fur coat. Their home is at Otaki.
