Drunken Motorist Fined. Found in a state of intoxication in a motor-car in the city at an early hour yesterday, Theodore Sutherland was fined £2O and had his licence cancelled for 12 months in the Magistrates Court, Wanganui, yesterday. Missing Airmen.
A reward of £5OO has now been offered by Mr W. B. Baker, Russell, for information leading to the recovery of the aircraft in which his son, Leading Aircraftman Charles William Baker, and Leading Aircraftman Winston Cannell, Matamata, are missing from the Ohakea Air Force Station .
Wellington Show Association. “As the association’s property is under the control of the Army Department it has not been possible to carry out ’any activities during the past year,” states the annual report of the Wellington Show Association. The annual accounts, it is stated, show a loss on the year’s working of £202, which is a result of writing off depreciation totalling £1166. It is expected that the position will improve during the coming year, as certain expenses are nonrecurring. Apart from depreciation and interest on debentures the total outgolings of the association will now be less 'than £lOO per annum.
Dance at Masterton West School. The Masterton West Home and School Association will hold a dance, bridge and 500 party in the Masterton West school tonight, commencing at 8 o’clock. As the gathering will be held for the purpose of raising funds to assist the school, there should be a large attendance. Every effort is being made to assure that patrons will spend an enjoyable time. ■;; Bookmaker Sent to Gaol.
A sentence of six weeks’ imprisonment was imposed on Arthur Joseph Yeo, aged 48, convicted of carrying on the business of bookmaker, by Mr J. Miller, S.M., in the Magistrates’ Court, Napier, yesterday. On a charge of having been intoxicated while in charge of a car, Yeo was sentenced to a week’s imprisonment, and for having resisted Constable Snell, he was fined £5, with costs. His driver’s licence was suspended for a year.
Territorial Training, The two months’}-collective training of Territorial Force units in the Central Military District will take place in two periods—from January 10, 1942, to March 7, 1942, and from March 14 to May 9. The dates for the first period are definite; those for the second are approximate. Personnel of units will receive individual notices of dates. With a v,ew to assisting the employment situaion, units from one centre will not becalled up all at the one time.
