GOLF YEAR

MASTERTON CLUB’S ANNUAL MEETING

LINKS IN GOOD ORDER. OFFICERS ELECTED UNOPPOSED. The annual meeting of members of the Masterton Golf Club was held last night, Mr J. V. Gordon, vicepresident, occupying the chair. An apology for absence was received from the president, Mr G. W. Sellar. The annual report, presented on behalf of the president, stated: “A perusal of the account's shows, after deducting £62 for depreciation and £52 for improvements to the course and club house, a loss of £lOO on the year’s working. Taking into consideration the difficulties of the present time, the position can be regarded as satisfactory, but at the same time it will be necessary for your incoming committee to keep a careful watch on all expenditure. The usual maintenance work has been carried out, and it has been your committee’s endeavour to keep the links in good playing condition, without undertaking any major improvements. We regret to record the deaths of Dr J. A. Cowie and Mr F. G. Stowell, both of whom were keen and active members of the club. Our good wishes are extended to all those members who are now serving with the fighting forces and we wish them a speedy and safe return. Our head groundsman, Mr A. E. Wimms, has been granted leave of absence while engaged on military duties. The club’s thanks are extended to the ground staff and club house custodian for their work during the year. Your committee appeals to members for their wholehearted support during the coming year. With so many of our members serving with the forces, it is a duty and obligation for those of us who are left behind to keep the course in order until normal conditions return.
