PUSHING ON
PROGRESS OF NEW ZEALAND DIVISION FIERCE FIGHTING CONTINUES. QUIET CONFIDENCE IN CAIRO. (Official War Correspondent, N.Z.E.F.) CAIRO. November 27. The redoubtable and indefatigable New Zealand Forces have added to an already brilliant record with the recapture of Sidi Rezegh, round which the main battle has been joined since the campaign opened. In the capture of Sidi Rezegh and the occupation of Bir El Hamed, the New Zealand forces met with considerable opposition from German infantry, but, supported by British tank formations, they successfully
completed the operation on the night of November 25. While stiff fighting continues in this area, throughout yesterday the New Zealanders pushed on in the direction of Tobruk and elements were successful in making junction with the Tobruk forces at El Duda early this morning, forces from Tobruk having captured this point yesterday. As in the case of the previous occupation of points, pockets of resistance still necessitate continued local action and it is stated that fighting confines to be fierce,-but details are not available. Military circles are quietly confident.
