THE BATTLE FOR MOSCOW Germans Creeping Nearer to Capital at Some PointeS CAPTURE OF KLIN CLAIMED BY ENEMY INTENSE FIGHTING IN VOLOKOLAMSK AND TULA AREAS LONDON, November 27. In Russia the Germans are slowly creeping nearer to Moscow. The Moscow radio, in a broadcast to the Russian people, said they must hold Moscow to the bitter end. The struggle for Moscow is becoming' more and more stern and more and more fierce, and the enemy is pushing' on towards the capital. The Germans claim to have captured Klin, but this is not confirmed. Six German tank divisions and five infantry divisions are pressing back the Russians in this area. South of Moscow, the enemy has thrown in three tank divisions and three infantry divisions in the Tula area. Tula is being’ shelled ' day and night with increasing violence. I In the Volokolamsk area, 50 miles north-west of Moscow, six German tank divisions and five infantry divisions are attacking. In the Crimea, Russian troops and marines of the fleet are still beating off all attacks on Sebastopol. West of Rostov, where the Russian forces have advanced over 60 miles in the past few days, the Russians continue to press home their attack and have taken two more villages. Today’s German communique speaks of progress towards Moscow, but admits Russian counter-attacks in the Leningrad and Rostov sectors.
