WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Pirinoa Women's Institute was held in the Memorial Hall. The president (Mrs Spicer) presided. There was a large attendance of members including visitors from other Institutes.

Mrs Swainson was the winner of the “word” competition. For the best Christmas novelty the winner was Mrs Atkinson, with Mrs O’Brien second. The best bloom competition was ’.von by Miss Scrimegour, with Mrs Lovegrove second. The hostesses were Miss Scrimegour and Mesdames Gaudin and Sutton. Personal Items. Mr J. McDonald has returned from Levin. Mrs J. H. Tilson has returned from a visit to Nelson. Mrs J. Phillips, who has been staying with her daughter, Mrs Spicer, has returned to Wellington. No Pictures. Keen disappointment was. felt among the residents of the district, particularly the younger generation, when it was announced that the “talkies” which has been for the past four years successfully operated by Mr Ray Forman, were to be discontinued owing to Mr Forman having disposed of ■ his picture interests in Martinborough. Picture nights in the village have always been a scene of activity, but last Friday night showed a decided change to those of the past few years owing io the picture programme not being shown.

Shearing Held Up. The weather continues unfavourable for shearing operations, and so far very little wool has gone forward to the stores. *
