THOUSAND SQUARE MILES RECOVERED POSITION OF THE GERMANS INSECURE. AIR FORCE ACTIVE ON BOTH SIDES. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, Noon.) LONDON, November 24. “The Times” Stockholm correspondent says that, apart from whether the invaders succeed in forcing the Don River, near Rostov, their position in the Donetz basin is not secure, but is disputed by strong and aggressive Russian forces, operating in the Voroshilovgrad region and also from the hills eastward of Orjonikidze and elsewhere. The Russians in this region during the weekend recovered about _ one thousand square miles and inflicted heavy losses on Italians, Germans and possibly also Hungarians. The Kuibyshev radio declared: “The Germans are throwing further tanks, planes and infantry into the battle for Tula, in an effort to exploit the penetration into the rear of the Russian fighting lines. Fighting is proceeding with increasing ferocity. The Russians are counter-attacking, inflicting heavy losses. Planes from both sides are vigorously supporting the. land operations, despite bad weather.’ ABORTIVE RAID BOMBS FALL HARMLESSLY IN'EAST ANGLIA. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 12.10 p.m.) RUGBY, November 24. “A single enemy aircraft dropped bombs this afternoon at a point on the coast of East Anglia,” states a communique. “No damage or casualties are reported.”
