UPPER PLAIN MEETING. SIXTH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATED. (“Times-Age” Special.) The sixth birthday meeting of the Upper Plain Women’s Institute was held at the residence of Mrs G. Dagg, who presided over a good attendance of members and friends. Visitors from Kaituna, Opaki, Kopuaranga and Solway were welcomed. Mrs Mannell displayed goods from the Institute pedlar box. Mesdames Jarrett and Munn gave very interesting demonstrations of Christmas novelties and fancy baskets, respectively. Both these ladies were the recipients of shoulder sprays.. The birthday cake, donated by the committee, had been iced by the secretary, Mrs Thomas. Mrs Keir, of the Federation executive, lit the candles on the cake, and at the same time extended birthday greetings from her Institute. The cake was then- cut by Mrs Tankersley. The hostesses for the afternoon tea were members of the committee. A report of the recent Council meeting, held in Carterton, was given by Mrs Mannell. She was accorded a vote of thanks. Competitions were won by Mesdames Clarke and Munn, respectively. Posies and sprays were presented to the president, visitors and committee members.
