INTERHOUSE DAY

DRILL & MARCHING EVENTS GATHERING IN MASTERTON PARK. RESULTS OF COMPETITIONS. There was a record attendance of four thousand spectators from all parts of the district at the Masterton Park on Saturday afternoon to witness the Wairarapa Interhouse Association’s annual gala day events. The weather was heavily overcast but remained fine, making conditions quite pleasant. The beautiful Park surroundings were enhanced by the bright colours of the resplendent uniforms worn by the one hundred and thirty competitors in the girls’ drill and marching competitions. The competitions and the sports programme which followed were speedily and efficiently put through by a hard working team of officials.

Mr L. B. Maunsell, president of the' Interhouse Association, briefly addressed the gathering and congratulated the girls on their fine showing. Mrs J. Robertson apologised for the absence of Mr Robertson, M.P., and introduced Mr Bach, of the Department of Internal Affairs. Mr Bach said that the Sinister of ’ Internal Affairs, Mr Parry; regretted that he could not attend the sports but he sent cordial wishes for a successful day. A feature of the gathering was the presence of the Trentham Military Band and the Masterton Municipal Band.

The drill and marching competitions were keenly contested and the standard throughout was exccellent. Last year’s winners, Codys, turned on a brilliant performance to again take first place and win the handsome A. and P. Association’s challenge cup for the second time. The members of the team marched and drilled with remarkable precision. W.F.C.A. filled second position, winning the “Times-Age” challenge cup and Hugo and Shearers finished third to win the J. H. Cunningham challenge cup. The coach of the winning team, Lieutenant H.
