BEAUTIFUL DISPLAY

GLORIOUS PROFUSION OF BLOOMS AT MUNICIPAL HALL TODAY. HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY’S SHOW. A glorious profusion of blooms has converted the Municipal Hall, Masterton, into a bower of flowers today for the Masterton Horticultural and Industrial Society's Spring Show. The cottage section is again a feature of the show both in regard to the number and quality of the exhibits. Among the fine specimens on show an array of roses, and sweet peas hold pride of place. The open section makes up in quality what it lacks in quantity of entries. The Masterton Park display features a magnificent variety of calcelaria, the colours covering a fine range of deep and light shadings. Roses and maidenhair fern are also displayed to advantage. Many favourable comments were passed on the high standard of the exhibit. An innovation for the show was a competition among Women’s Institutes and Garden Circles in which an area along the wall of the hall had to be decorated. Many beautiful and artistic entries wore received. The miniature garden section was also very good. Taking into account the recent gales and wet weather the quality of the exhibits is a credit to the exhibitors of the district. The show was officially opened this afternoon by the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, accompanied by Mrs Jordan. The society’s hard working band of officials had all the arrangements well in hand for the successful running or the show, and they have been warmly congratulated on their efforts This year the entries in the children’s section are larger than ever and the Society is very pleased with the interest taken in the Show by the younger people. Of special also is a display of handiwork by the crippled children of the Masterion Hospital. The work is of a high standard- and many novel articles arc displayed.
