1 DEATH OF MR J. C. WATSON. FIRST LABOUR PRIME MINISTER OF AUSTRALIA. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, November 18. The death has occurred of MrJohn Christian Watson, first LabourPrime Minister of Australia. He was a pioneer in the trade union movement here. Mr Watson spent his youth in New Zealand, where he became a compositor, eventually settling in Sydney. The House of Representatives in Canberra suspended its sitting this afternoon out of respect to his memory. Mr Watson, who was born in Valparaiso, was educated at the Oamaru public school. He became a member of the Federal House of Representatives for South Sydney in 1901 and was Prime Minister and Treasurer from April to August, 1904. He retired from politics in 1910.
