A Chinese army spokesman at Chungking staled that military intelligence reports indicated large-scale Japanese troop movements at sea. Great numbers of warships and transports are being massed oil the coast of northern Indo-China. About one hundred transports and 140 Japanese warships are at Hoihow, on Hoinan Island and scores of other warships are off Kwangtung. HOPES OF PEACE ENTERTAINED BY KURUSU. The Japanese envoy, Mr Kurusu, said he was engaged on a very difficult and important mission, but he was most hopeful that peace between Japan and America may be assured. “JAPAN’S UKRAINE” NATIONAL FRONTIERS IGNORED. The “Nichi Nichi Shimbun” quoted a broadcast by Mr Yukawa, head of the Japanese Foodstuffs Bureau, in which he declared that Thailand, Burma and Indo-China were really the Japanese Ukraine, since Japan got enormous supplies of rice from them. Japan must defend her southern lifeline and eliminate all barriers.
