UNION GRAFTERS

SENTENCED IN UNITED STATES. NEW YORK, November 12. Two movie industry union leaders, William Bioff and George Browne, have been sentenced to 10 years and eight years’ gaol respectively, and each fined 20,000 dollars for violation of the anti-racketeering law. The judge said they had not only violated the law but also betrayed their trust and brought their organisation into disrepute. They had dealt a blow on labour that would leave a scar for years to come. They were found guilty by a Federal Court of extorting 550,000 dollars from moving picture executives under threats of calling strikes in the industry.
