Canterbury Cup. The finish of the Canterbury Cup yesterday at Riccarton was one of the best in the history of the race, Wardress, Lambourn and Rakanui finishing with half heads between them, with .Yogi, only a head away fourth. Rakanui and Kentucky made the pace to the straight from Par Avion and Palfrey. Kentucky bled and retired soon after entering the straight, where Lambourn, Yogi and Wardress were all advancing from the back. In the last 100 yards Rakanui and Yogi were hard at it, when Lambourn on the outside and Wardress on the inner dived through to join them, and in a hard finish Wardress got the verdict from Lambourn, with Rakanui third and Yogi fourth. They were spread across the track, making it the most spectacular finish of the meeting. Bascule pulled up lame.
