GREYTOWN

1 LEAGUE OF MOTHERS LAST MEETING OF YEAR. (“Times-Age” Special.) The last meeting of the year of the Greytown League of Mothers was held in the Memorial Park yesterday afternoon, and took the form of a garden party. Under the leadership of Mrs A. York an enjoyable community sing was held.

Competitions resulted as follows: Croquet, Mrs Smart 1; golf putting, Mrs Gayler and Mrs Maddison equal 1; egg and spoon race, Mrs W. Hodge. The children were catered for as well. Several races were run off, and each child received sweets. Afternoon tea was served on the kiosk verandah. Mrs Bull (president) thanked those present for having made the gathering the success it was. Mrs Denny, of Lower Hutt, a former member of the branch, was welcomed. RED GROSS SOCIETY GIFTS FOR SOLDIERS’ HOSPITAL. At a meeting of the executive of the Greytown Sub-Centre of the New Zealand Red Cross Society there were present Mr A. W. Horton (president), Mesdames Horton, Bunny, Gregor, Everett, Kempton, Knell and Jury. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Nisbet and Thompson and Miss Keltie and Mrs Maddison. Donations were received from Mrs McLeod, Mr Keltie and Mrs Knell for the Prisoner of War Fund. It was reported that the V.A.D.’s held a very successful dance, clearing £7 12s for the Prisoner of War Fund and the Depot Equipment Fund. It was announced that two capes had been purchased for the use of V.A.’s while engaged' in work at the Anzac Hospital. Misses B. Shedden and E. and B. Gregor have already been on duty in Featherston. Gifts were forwarded to the Featherston Soldiers’ Hospital. Fruit, cigar-, ettes, cakes and flowers were supplied by members, and delivered by Mrs F, C. Bunny. Bowling. The game for the Grady Medals played at Greytown yesterday resulted in a win for the holders. The Carterton pair, Riggs and Harrington, played good bowls but McLeod and Higgison proved too strong. In a Gold Bars game Wallace and J. Kiernan defeated, H. R. Feast and Dennes. Further handicap singles results are: Burns beat Brown, Kilgour beat H. W. Feast. Heme Guard. Both units of the Greytown Home Guard will parade this evening.
