MISSION TO RUSSIA

PROPOSED IN AUSTRALIA MILITARY & ECONOMIC AFFAIRS. OBSERVERS MAY BE SENT TO BATTLEFRONTS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, Noon.) CANBERRA, This Day. An early decision was expected from the Federal Cabinet on a proposal to send an Australian mission to Russia. The proposal is being actively canvassed in Canberra. The mission would, not be diplomatic, but military and economic. Supporters of the proposal think it would be of advantage to Australia to have military and air observers on the Russian battlefronts, and also to have representation in trade matters. Australia could have such a mission without involving itself in the diplomatic problems that might be involved in an exchange of permanent Ministers.
