MASTERTON CLUB.

RACE FROM PICTON.

The Masterton Homing Pigeon Club held a race from Picton when fast times were recorded. When the birds flew from Picton, an airline distance of 96 miles, in 2hrs lOmin, at a Speed of 45 miles per hour, most of the members were unaware of the arrival of their birds until they saw them in the loft. The weather was fine with a good southerly wind which accounted for the fast times. Out of the 29 birds liberated 17 were home by nightfall. The club placings are as follows: C. J. Douglas’s “Gay Pied,” 1316yds per min, 1; C. J. Douglas’s “Desert Sun.” 1312 yds per min, 2; W. J. Miller's “Night Star,” 1302yds per min, 3; W. J. Miller’s “Strathearn,” 1249yds per min, 4; L Mayes’s “Dr. Schilling,” 1237yds per min, 5; I. Mayes’s “Tommy,” 1236yds per min. 6. In the South points competition C. J. Douglas has a good lead with 38 points from W. J. Miller, who has 15 points. The next race will be from Wellsford (335 miles). This will be the second race for the Rose Bowl.
