POOR SUCCESS

OF ENEMY DIVE=BOMBERS IN ATTEMPTS TO RAID MOSCOW. DEFENCES TAKE HEAVY TOLL. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.20 a.m.) RUGBY, November 9. On the night of November 6 a group of thirty German divebombers attempted to raid Moscow, but failed to reach the city. Some of the planes were shot down and others turned tail. During the daytime on November 6 about 250 German planes attempted to raid the capital, but as the defences are very efficient the Nazi planes did not fulfil their task. At 7 p.m., during the celebration of the October Revolution in Moscow, the Germans sent over 50 planes to bomb the city, but they were dispersed before reaching their objectives. During the whole of November 6, 34 German planes were shot down near Moscow. The Nazis altered their tactics and sent over single planes, but again the defences were successful in preventing them from reaching the capital. , In consequence of the close vicinity of the front, the task of the Russian defences is more difficult. The Germans are now sending bombers, accompanied by fighters, but in spite of growing difficulties the defences and night fighters are carrying out their task with a will and with success.
