PRIVATE ENTERPRISE

SHOULD BE RESTORED. . A POST WAR TASK. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) INVERCARGILL. November _ 7. “Private enterprise and individual effort have made the British Empire. Unfortunately, because of the war, we have been regimented and socialised to a much greater degree than would otherwise have been necessary. When peace comes we in the chambers of commerce must do our part in' seeing that private enterprise is restored to its own place or the Empire will not continue in the same manner as it has done in the past,” said Captain S. Holm, (Wellington), newly-elected president of the Associated Chambers of Commerce, at the conference of associated chambers today. “In the meantime,” Captain Holm added “There are dangerous times ahead of us, and all our energies must be directed to winning the war. When the war is won we must then devote cur energies to winning the peace. Unemployment and industrial unrest will follow if careful plans are not made for a smooth change-over from war effort to peace enterprise. Many may think that this is the business of the Government, but chambers of commerce are interested and can assist.”
