WELFARE LEAGUE

MEETING IN MASTERTON hospital emergency work. KITCHEN AIDS REQUIRED. '■ The monthly meeting of the Women’s National Welfare League was held in Masterton yesterday afternoon. Miss Kummer presided. There were also present: Mesdames A. W. McKenzie, R. C. Drummond, S. Fletcher, S. McCracken, W. L. Hunter, S. L. P. Free, E. J. Brown, H. P. Harrison, G. H. Collie, Watson, S N. Kilgour, Misses feellis and Boddington. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames T. Jordan, J. Carruthers, H. E. Pither, W. Andrew, S. J. Munn, F. Reynolds, and Misses C. and M. Cameron.

Mrs Drummond reported on two .visits which had been paid to Masterton Hospital during October. Flowers, literature, etc., had been distributed, and the usual tea given to the inmates of Ward 6. The visitors for November 11 will be Mesdames Brown, McCracken, Miss Beiliss, and Miss Collie and another member will be visitors on November 25. League visitors were asked to collect and take flowers with them on their visits.

It was decided to pay the annual Christmas visit to the Buchanan Home during the middle of December, at a date to be decided on by Matron Higginson. Transport and entertainment arrangements were left in .Miss Kummer's hands.

Mrs Harrison reported on Red Cross matters. She said that kitchen V.A’s. were urgently required to train in hospital emergency work. Anyone desiring to undertake a course of training should communicate with Miss M. Diggins, C/o “Times-Age.” Mrs Carruthers reported that a hamper had been sent to the A.N.A. Club, Wellington, on October 20. A letter of thanks had been received from the cafeteria committee. Any member caring to make donations .is asked to leave goods, etc., at Mr J. Ninnes’s shop in Queen Street, before November 19.

Mrs McKenzie reported on social welfare work. Two cases had been assisted. Children’s clothing was urgently, required.

Miss Kummer stated that £1 7s 6d and 7 sunshades had been sent in response to the Makogai Leper Appeal.

Mesdames Hoar, Keltie and Miss Hosking were thanked for donations.
