A QUIET TONE.

PRICES DEFINITELY BACKWARD

There was a quiet tone in all sections at the Feilding sale today, all stock being hard to quit. Prices were definitely backward, lack of quality being partly responsible for this in addition to a poor demand. Quotations for fat sheep and mutton went back about Is Gd a head, with several lines being passed in at auction. Extra prime ewes made 15s 4d to 16s lOd, prime do. 13s to 14s 4d, unfinished 6s 10s to 11s lOd, extra prime wethers 21s Id to 22s lOd, prime do. 18s lOd to 20s 4d, unfinished do. 17s 7d to 18s 4d, extra prime hoggets 24s lOd to 25s 7d, prime do. 22s 4d to 23s lOd, light 17s 7d to 21s lOd, springing lambs 23s 7d to 24s lOd, store sheep definitely were not wanted, very few out of a moderatesized entry .changing hands. Good 2tooth wethers made 21s lOd to 245. 3d, small 16s 2d to 18s, good ewe hoggets 26s 3d to 28s, black-faced hoggets 225, ■ewes and lambs all counted Ils to 14s 7d.

Inquiry for store cattle fell away to a few short lines of only moderate Quality stock, Jersey heifers also being neglected. Two-year-old steers made £6 11s to £7 9s, yearling do. £5, empty forward heifers £4, yearling Jersey do., best £4 17s 6d to £5 6s, others £2 to £3 ss, boner cows £1 5s to £2 15s. In the fat cattle section beef shared appreciably in the general drop in prices, but here again there was little first quality material on hand. Light prime ox made £9 17s 6d to £lO 17s 6d, unfinished ox £8 2s Gd to £8 12s Gd, light steers £5 17s Gd to £7 12s 6d, medium prime heifers £8 7s 6d to £9 IQs, medium prime cows £8 to £8 7s 6d, unfinished £4 7s 6d to £6 7s 6d, vealers £4. There was a patchy demand for dairy stock, select quality cows and heifers making good values. Best springing heifers made £ll to £l3 15s, others £6 5s to £9 ss, good springing cows £lO 5s to £ll, backward £6 10s to £B. Good, weaner pigs made 10s to 18s, slips 235, stores 35s to 375, porkers 43s to 445.
