REGENT THEATRE
“HE STAYED FOR BREAKFAST.”
Melvyn Douglas and Loretta Young are coming to be recognised as a team quite out of the ordinary. Eugene Pallette's weight is added to the cast and the laughs are likely to be loud and lasting as they are in “He Stayed for Breakfast,” which will be shown tonight. The butt of most of the jokes is the Communist Party, of which Douglas is presented as a highpressure member, given since early youth to organising groups for “the revolution.” And to make it fair all round, the butt of the best of the jokes is a banker, Duval (Pallette), who pulls wires and generally creates a fuss about his person. Duval has a lovely wife ‘Loretta Young) who has had more than enough of him, and is about to divorce him. There is also another “suitor,” editor of a liberal paper, whose chief aim‘ ! in life seems to be to annoy his banker friend. Into Madame Duval’s luxurious apartment comes the Communist, disguised for the moment as a policeman, with a horde of real policemen in full chase. Madame Duval is not the sort of woman to be specially interested in such a person, but when she learns that he has shot her husband in the little finger, she takes an instant liking to him and hides him from the police. It is a very good and very amusing show all round.
