FAMOUS MANNEQUIN

FOUND DEAD IN LONDON FLAT. MAY HAVE TAKEN OVERDOSE OF SLIMMING TABLETS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.9 p.m.) LONDON, November 6. Mrs Gloria Lane, formerly one of London’s best-known mannequins (Gloria of Selfridge’s) has been found dead in bed at her Maida Vale flat. The police believe she had been dead for four days, possibly from an overdose of slimming tablets. Mrs Gloria Lane had received thousands of offers of marriage, including proposals from princes, but she married the son of a country squire. Her husband is now in the Army. In 1937, when she was eighteen, she said she had been photographed more than 500,000 times. Her picture has appeared in more publications than that of any other girl in the world.
