MAIL FOR TROOPS
AIR RATE CONCESSION EXTENDED TO FIJI.
HUGE VOLUME OF PARCELS FOR MIDDLE EAST.
(Ey Telegraph—Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, This Day.
Referring to the inclusion of Suva as a port of call in trans-Pacific air service, the Postmaster-General, Mr Webb, said today that the concession postage rate of ninepence for air mail letters not exceeding half an ounce, for New Zealanders serving in . the Middle Ea§t, would apply also to air mail letters addressed to New Zealand soldiers in Fiji. The Postmaster-General said that in a recent period of- one month, no fewer than 18.439 bags (about 500 tons) of parcels had been posted to the troops in the Middle East. These figures, which represented over a quarter of a million parcels, would convey some idea of what people were doing to bring good cheer and comfort to the men in the field.
