“THE GRAFTER.”)

The Palmerston North jockey, W. J. Broughton, was unsuccessful with his appeal to the Wellington District Committee last evening from the decision of the Judicial Committee of the Wellington Racing Club which suspended him for three months for careless riding and causing interference during the running of the Pearce Handicap at Trentham on Labour Day. The hearing of the appeal occupied two and a half hours and at its . conclusion the committee issued the following finding: “That in the opinion of the Wellington District Committee the new evidence produced by Broughton does not in any way discount the evidence of the other riders concerned, and is further of the opinion that the finding of the Judicial Committee was correct and that the penalty imposed was not excessive. The appeal is therefore dismissed and Broughton’s deposit is ordered to be returned.” Broughton roc[e Kentucky, the winner of the Pearce Handicap.
