DELEGATES MEET

PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OPENED YESTERDAY. GATHERING AT TIMARU. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) TIMARU. November 4. The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand opened in Timaru tonight. More than 260 delegates, representing nearly all parishes in the Dominion, wore present. Because of the illness of the retiring Moderator, the Rt. Rev. G. H. Jupp, the sermon at. the opening service was preached by the Rev. J. Lawson Robinson, Christchurch. The Assembly is expected to last seven days. The report of the Public Questions Committee is likely to come forward on Wednesday night, the maintenance of ministry report on Friday morning and the Church Union report; on Friday night.

Mr Lawson Robinson, deputising tonight for Mr Jupp, expressed regret that he was. not able to complete his term of office and expressed on behalf of the Assembly sympathy with Mr Jupp in his illness and hope for his speedy recovery.
